Flower #13

Close up of an upside down sunflower

Hello, hello to my faithful followers (all two of you!).

It’s a brand new week and since yesterday was the much-anticipated solar eclipse (which was not visible from where I live, by the way), I thought this upside down sunflower was an appropriate image to honour the celestial event

Actually, I only made this image because I couldn’t fit the entire flower in the square frame.  😑

Having said that, I feel I should warn you that I’ve been buying flowers from the florist every weekend the last three weeks and spent all my weekends photographing them, so….get ready for an avalanche of flower images! You have been warned.  😊

Flower #12

Red rose with falling petal

The Enchanted Rose

“The rose she had offered was truly an enchanted rose, which would bloom until his twenty-first year. If he could learn to love another, and earn their love in return by the time the last petal fell, then the spell would be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time.”

Landscape #5

Made with iPhone 7 Plus and edited with Snapseed.

Went to the beach last weekend to take a break from photographing flowers and the sea water did wonders for my (ahem) “artistic vision” – I came home with new inspiration for flower photography! So stay tuned for more flowers. In the meantime, enjoy this shot of the beach. I know that landscapes look better in the 4:3 format but I’ve been shooting in the square format ever since I discovered Hipstamatic a few years ago. I like how the confines of the square forces me to get creative with composition

Flower #11

Close-up of white daisy.

I challenged myself to upload an image every day on 500px and was running out of decent photos to post so I went to the market last weekend and bought a bunch of flowers, set up a pop-up studio at home and clicked away like crazy.

This is one of the images from that photo shoot.  What I’m most proud of is that I used the iPhone’s native camera and went in as close as I could while maintaining focus. No external macro lens. No post processing.  Not even a tripod.  Just pure and simple.   😊

Landscape #4

I posted this image on Instagram and it wasn’t until I saw this comment from one of my followers that I saw the optical illusion.

If you look at the middle branch, it looks like it’s cut in the middle and the top part is suspended in mid-air.

The alignment is totally accidental but I’m happy it happened.   😊

Flower #10

Moth Orchids
Shot on iPhone 7 Plus

Don’t tell my boss, but this is what I do whenever I’m in the ladies room at my workplace – practising my flower photography.

There is always a pot of orchids (or three!) in the ladies room (I’m not sure about the men’s room, though) and I can’t resist whipping out my phone and taking a few shots.

This image was made using the Portrait mode.
