Flower #1

Flower close-up

This was taken a few years ago during one of my many trips to the highlands to escape the blazing heat in the city.

I was drawn to this flower because of the pink streaks on its petals and I thought the water droplets and flies added character. I am still amazed at how sharp the image is considering it was made with a smartphone with no special macro lens – I just moved in really close.

  • Photograph flowers on an overcast day.
  • Watch out for wind.
  • Avoid a cluttered background.
  • Use a shallow depth of field.
  • Change your point of view.
